BIOGRAPHY

Veronica is currently the Head of School of Architecture, Building and Design (SABD), Taylor’s University. Her leadership in the design and development of architecture programmes and her collective experiences have led to her appointment as a member in the Council of Architectural Accreditation and Education Malaysia for the session 2017-2018, and the Accreditation Assessor from 2022-2027. At an institutional level, Veronica has been actively involved from the conception to capacity building for an attribute-based education underpinned by Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities (TGC) and the Taylor’s Curriculum Framework. Recently, she was also engaged in the conceptualisation and execution of Purpose Learning through her role as the Director of the Liveable Urban Communities Impact Lab in 2023.

Veronica’s purpose, as an educator, is to use empathetic design thinking to deliver impactful learning beyond the four walls of the “classroom”. In seeking to bridge between education, practice and research, she curated and led several distinctive collaborative projects such as Undo-Redo with BetterCities, PavilionNOW with Shalini Ganendra Fine Arts, SentulWorks with YTL Sdn Bhd, Kampong Baru Taylor’s-Vernadoc Camp and the ‘Analysing Architecture’ educational programme with Aga Khan Trust for Culture. Her initiatives informed her academic work and has been recognized through awards such as the EMAS Award for Innovation Teaching & Learning, Badan Warisan Malaysia, Mobin Shepperd Memorial Prize, and the Chairman’s Award for Teaching Excellence, Taylor’s University and Gold award in Invention, Innovation & Design on e-Learning Competition.

Veronica is a researcher and a writer. Anchored by her PhD thesis titled “Re-thinking Place”, her research focusses on the notion of place and place-making, and contemporary Malaysian architecture. She is currently engaged in the institutional initiative on purpose learning, while leading a research project on socio-spatial framework for temporary migrant worker housing in Malaysia and developing a design pedagogy framework for post-covid architecture education. She authors books and contributes to architecture magazines such as World Architecture, Architecture Asia, Architecture Malaysia, Architecture Australia, and d+a. Her active role in the Malaysian Institute of Architects through the Education, Media and Publication committees has landed her numerous appointments as convenor and moderator of international and national events.
