Associate Professor Dr Ghafour Amouzad Mahdiraji


Dr. Ghafour received his Diploma and B.Eng. degree in Electrical Power Engineering from Iran in 1998 and 2002, respectively. After Diploma, he joined to Behpak Industrial Companies as the Head of Electrical Maintenance and Renovation for 4 years. He obtained his M.Eng. degree in Communication and Computer Engineering from University Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2006. In 2009, he received his Ph.D. degree from the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in the field of Communications and Networks Engineering (major in optical communication systems). May 2009 to Aug. 2010 he was lecturer in the School of Engineering, UCSI University. Afterwards, he joined to the Center of Excellence for Wireless and Photonics Networks in UPM for around 1.2 years as Postdoc. From Nov. 2011 to 2012 he worked as Visiting Research Fellow in the Integrated Lightwave Research Group (ILRG), Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Malaya (UM). Then, he worked in the same department as Senior Lecturer till Oct. 2015 (3 years) followed by 6 months as Senior Research Fellow. During his services with UM, he led the Optical Fiber Fabrication Group where he actively was involved in microstructured optical fiber fabrication and design and development of photonic sensors. Since May 2016, he joined the School of Engineering, Taylor’s University. Apart from Optical Communication Systems, his current research interests are on photonic sensors based on microstructured optical fibers. So far, he published more than 70 refereed journals, 35 conferences, 9 patents, and achieved several research and teaching excellence awards. In teaching, he has experienced different Electrical and Communication courses and supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate students. He involved in several research grant projects (total of >RM 10 Million) as investigator/member. The significance of finding output form his research projects are different types of optical fiber dosimeter sensors.
