BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Foo Jhi Biau is an Associate Professor from the Department of Pharmacology, School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, Taylor’s University. Dr. Foo graduated in Biomedical Sciences at the Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2008. He obtained his Master of Science (Oncology) in 2012 and PhD (Pharmacology and Toxicology) from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2015. After obtaining his PhD degree, he joined School of Pharmacy, MAHSA University, Malaysia from May 2015-Nov 2017. During the employment with MAHSA University, Dr Foo was appointed as Head of Department of Pharmacology and Final Year Project Coordinator to coordinate Departmental and BPharm FInal Year Project activities, respectively. He has a new role as an academician in School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, Taylor's University to contribute his teaching and research to the University.

RESEARCH INTEREST

  • Dr Foo's primary research interest is in the drug discovery for the treatment of cancer. His research focus in cancer is primarily focusing on inhibiting cancer growth via glycosylation pathway, particularly when the cancer cells are under hypoxic conditions. He is collaborating with chemists to investigate the anti-cancer properties of synthetic compounds which can be further formulated with nano-materials to enhance the drug delivery into the system (targeted therapy). The second area that Dr Foo's research interest is the stem cell research. His research group has developed the protocol to isolate and characterize mesenchymal stem cell exosome or small extracellular vesicles (MSCs-sEVs). The team is currently exploring the potential therapeutics properties of MSCs-sEVs for treatment of diseases such as inflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
