He designed the curriculum for Mobile Computing and Cloud Computing specialization tracks by incorporating industry-driven practices. He has in-depth knowledge of ISO audit and Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) accreditation processes. In 2019, he led BSE towards a successful ISO 9001:2015 QMS audit. He has worked closely with Staffordshire University and presently working in collaboration with the University of the West of England (UWE) in areas of teaching and research. Due to his knowledge of applying the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) in T&L, in 2020, he received the status of Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA) from Advance HE, UK.

He has over seven years of teaching experience at top-ranked universities in Malaysia. He has practical skills to effectively teach modules such as mobile application development, advanced programming languages, design patterns, computer and network security, data communications, distributed systems, operating systems, software quality engineering, and cloud computing. His teaching incorporates student-centric and differentiated learning approaches focusing on accessibility and diversity. He uses tools such as Polls Everywhere, Kahoot and Socrative, and teaches with Storytelling and behaviorism philosophy by providing digital badges to students to enhance their engagement and interaction. He conducts online and blended learning sessions using Microsoft Teams and Moodle. He evaluates students’ learnability through Assessment-for-Learning, Assessment-of-Learning and Assessment-as-Learning methods and caters special assessment tasks for differently-abled students. He ensures the reliability and validity of the assessments using Test-Retest Reliability and Content Validity techniques. He provides verbal, video recorded and written feedback to the students. Due to his teaching quality and affability with students, he was rated as an excellent lecturer in teaching and engagement evaluation conducted by the students, peers, and superiors in both semesters (March and August) of 2019.

Dr. Sarfraz is an active researcher in the areas of Smart Cities (Mobility and Environment), Data Science (Deep and Machine Learning Algorithms), Cloud Security, Cyber Security and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). He incorporates industry exposure by working as a researcher with MIMOS Berhad under the requirements of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia throughout his PhD. He has a proven track record of 41 publications (most of which are indexed by Scopus and Web of Science-ISI and published with IEEE, ACM, Elsevier, SPIE and Springer), including Q1 and Q2 empirical journals. He is supervising Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students in various domains of research and has assisted them in publishing their results in international journals and conferences of high repute. He is a reviewer of indexed journals and has participated in the organization of several IEEE and ACM conferences. He has secured 4 national and international grants from the British Council UK, Taylor’s University and Ministry of Education, Malaysia. He has a sustainable network of collaborators and commercialization partners from Europe and Malaysia, including Austrian Institute of Technology, Malaysia Institute of Transport, UWE, Knowle West Media Centre Bristol, Department of Environment Malaysia, National Heart Institute Malaysia and Matter Innovation, UK. His research received the Best Paper Award in 2019 1st International Conference on Technology Innovation and Data Science.

As the program director, Dr. Sarfraz is in charge of new staff recruitment, resource management, academic workload planning, managing the staff reporting to him, student support services, benchmarking BSE against the cognate programs, and resolving problems relating to delivery of the program. Concurrently, as the coordinator of T&L, he is working towards improving the quality of T&L methods and platforms. He was rated as an excellent staff in the overall annual performance appraisal at Taylor's in 2018 and 2019.
