Research Interest

  • My research interest is within the scope of my academic and teaching pursuit in architecture, built environment and sustainability. My research interest is in green building performance, particularly passive design strategies. My current research in these areas is courtyard simulation for hot and humid climates, green walls as part of facade study and wind chimney. Other research projects I am involved in are socio-spatial, spatial qualities, thermal comfort and public spaces, retaining green building ratings and retrofitting existing homes to be sustainable. Another area that is closely related to solving sustainability issues in the built environment is technology. Technology has supported in many ways such as creating devices to harvest renewable energy in line with the recently renamed sustainable development goals of SDG 7, sensoring and collecting data in intelligent building systems and creating new sustainable materials through 4R (reduce, re-use, recycle, and re-create) while reducing waste in the construction industry. My research in construction technology such as Industrialised Building System (IBS), a modular system is to suggest ways to be creative using the IBS system and the usage of Building Information Modelling (BIM) software such as Autodesk Revit in teaching as well as advocating it to the built environment industry in adapting it for green buildings. My research in Architecture Education, Pedagogy and E-learning primarily focuses on Design Thinking and Architecture Studio based learning. Apart from these, I have also researched learning model-making through physical modelling, learning shading through sun-path and digital simulation, and creative learning outcomes such as photography-based learning.
