BIOGRAPHY



Rahmat Hashim was born and raised in Penang. He is an associate professor at the Faculty of Hospitality, Food & Leisure Management. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Alliant International University in San Diego as well as a Master’s Degree of Professional Services (MPS) in Travel and Tourism Management from the New School for Social Research, New York. Rahmat Hashim earned a PhD in Food and Leisure from Sheffield Hallam University in UK.
He has authored and co-authored several books and book chapters such as “Restaurant Service Delivery and Customer Patronization”, “New Product and Efficiency Strategy for Foodservice Business”, “The Impact of Food Trends on Menu Innovation” and “Human Resource Management in Hospitality”. Currently, his is working on a book title “Positioning and Branding Tourism Destinations for Global Competitiveness” to be published by IGI Global. He has authored and co-authored several journal articles and conference proceedings, serving as editorial board for several journals, besides serving as reviewers and technical committee members in IEEE conferences including Scopus and ISI indexed proceedings and journals in relevant areas. Working with his colleagues in the faculty, he is one of the project leaders for the TU Flagship Research Grants. He, together with his colleagues, has won several awards in product innovation competition such as the BioInno Awards Malaysia and ITEX Malaysia.

Prior joining Taylor’s he was an Associate Professor at UiTM Shah Alam. His research interests lie in the area of learning behavior, competence management, and branding and innovation. Throughout his career he has undertaken a variety of administrative duties at UiTM and served as the Associate Dean for Research for the School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts, Taylor’s University. He is a member of the Institute of Hospitality, United Kingdom, American Sociological Association and Academy of Management, USA. And Tourism Educators Association of Malaysia (TEAM). He was the past president (2012-2014) of Tourism Educators Association of Malaysia (TEAM), chairperson for MQA’s program standard for hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts and member of the Malaysian Qualification Agency’s panel of assessors. Presently, he is a committee member, Malaysia Industry Standard (ISC-Tourism, Exhibition & Hospitality Services), SIRIM.
